About the Tour

The great merchant Free City of Gdansk was not very free for everyone throughout the 20th century.

Between WWI and WWII Gdansk was a city-state - desired by both Germany and Poland. It was only semi-independent and eventually became a nest of the Nazi movement. In Hitler's era, the city witnessed SS and SA troops marching to the rhythmic vibe of military music, swastikas decorating its streets, persecutions against Jews and Poles. Eventually, it saw the death of it all: Jews, Poles, Germans, and... the city itself, destroyed almost completely.

On the tour, you will learn the story of the Nazi movement in Gdansk, the fate of the pre-war Polish and Jewish minorities. You will be surprised, shocked, and scared by the story of one of the deadliest maritime disasters in history — indeed far bigger than the Titanic. These were the shameful moments of wartime Gdansk, the city where it all started.
